We're sorry, this alert is no longer available.

The short explanation of this alert was:

This year's state budget includes $1.2 million dollars for Project Reality, a publisher of two deeply flawed and misleading, abstinence-only curricula. Funding for Project Reality runs contrary to the expectations and desires of the 83% of Illinois voters and 92% of Illinois sex education teachers who believe that a comprehensive approach to sex education in schools is important. Read more about Project Reality's misleading curricula.

We shouldn't use state tax dollars to mislead youth about sex. Please send a message to your elected officials and urge them to remove funding for Project Reality from the budget. Research shows that comprehensive sex education programs that combine abstinence with factual information (including information about contraceptives and other critical issues) delay sexual activity and prevent disease. These are the types of programs that help young people make responsible decisions and, therefore, deserve funding.
